A lighter version of this traditional Cuban dish, This recipe is filled with all the delicious savoriness of the original.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground turkey

  • 1/2 cups onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp. sugar

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin

  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves

  • 14-1/2 oz. can of stewed tomatoes

  • 1 Granny Smoth apple, cored and chopped

  • 1/4 cup golden raisins

  • 2 tbsp. pimiento-stuffed olives, thinly sliced

  • 1/4 cup stuffed olives, thinly sliced

  • 1/4 cup toasted almonds

Directions

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sauté turkey, onion, green pepper, and garlic until turkey is browned.
  • Stir in sugar, cinnamon, cumin, cloves, tomatoes, apple, raisins, and olives, and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat when done.
  • Serve over rice, top with toasted almonds, and enjoy!
